Steyr Arms

Steyr Arms is an Austrian firearms manufacturer that was founded in 1864 by Josef Werndl. The company was originally called Josef und Franz Werndl & Comp, and was located in the town of Steyr, Austria.

In the early years of the company, Werndl focused on producing rifles for the Austro-Hungarian Army. The company’s first rifle, the Steyr Mannlicher Model 1885, was a bolt-action rifle that was used by the Austro-Hungarian Army during the First World War.

In the decades that followed, Steyr Arms continued to innovate and expand its product line. In the 1930s, the company introduced the STEYR AUG assault rifle, which was the first production bullpup rifle. The STEYR AUG was adopted by the Austrian Army in 1977 and has been used by military and law enforcement units around the world.

In the 1980s, Steyr Arms expanded its operations to the United States and established Steyr Arms USA. The company also introduced the STEYR SSG 08 sniper rifle, which was used by the United States Navy SEALs during the 1991 Gulf War.

In recent years, Steyr Arms has continued to produce high-quality firearms and has expanded its product line to include a range of rifles, pistols, and shotguns. In 2017, the company was acquired by the Swedish firearms manufacturer, Gunnebo, and is now a subsidiary of the company.

Today, Steyr Arms is known for its commitment to quality and innovation, and its firearms are widely used by hunters, shooters, and military and law enforcement personnel around the world.
